Sentience - The Real Meaning
Gahmah's back, not with artwork, but with another blog entry, which Gahmah hasn't done in a long time.

Okay, you're wondering why Gahmah put a picture of a rancor in here? Well, you'll have to read on to know why.

Definition of Sentience - Well, read this Wookieepedia entry to learn more on this matter.

Well, in actuallity, the term "sentient" is used incorrectly in the GFFA (again, don't ask what that stands for; figure it out yourselves). The correct term would actually be "sapient".

Sentience - having a conscience

Sapience - being able to think reasonably

How is it used incorrectly? Well, the "sentients" are classifying dumb animals (why say dumb animals? Well, aren't we all animals?) as "non-sentient". If something is non-sentient, it shouldn't be able to feel pain (physical or emotional). That is pretty speciest, for the right term would be "non-sapient"

Non-sentient - anything that lacks a conscience. i.e. - a plant

Non-sapient - any animal that doesn't think as intelligently as humans and the like. i.e. - rancors, wampas, banthas, etc.

Saying that a dumb animal is not sentient is kind of like saying "Oh, a rancor is just like a plant". Well, they certainly ain't. (Okay, that's where the rancor picture comes in)

The point is whoever the Darwin of the GFFA was, he/she was pretty speciest for classifying non-sapient creatures as non-sentient.

Sorry, Gahmah had to get really logical here, but hardly anyone has talked on this matter before. No, Gahmah is not trying to find fault in the GFFA. Gahmah's here just to make sure we fans are aware that most animals (besides us) are sentient, and not like plants.

In reality, why did they classify real sentient creatures in the GFFA as either "sentient" or "non-sentient"? As far as Gahmah knows, no one has provided an answer.....yet.
