I've been thinking about writing this for a while, but I think it's time I get this off my chest.
Over the past few months, my drawing updates don't seem to be getting as enough attention as I had hoped, judging by the average number of comments.
In the past, it wasn't a really large number, but over time, it has gotten smaller. I know, no comments doesn't mean no one's looking at it. I'm sure there are some other people (besides the ones that comment) out there enjoying it, but how am I supposed to know? I don't.
I was hoping to start my own comics (and I am still working on them), but barely anybody seems to care. The same applies with my regular artwork.
The problem with the attention shortage is that without a really large group of people showing interest, I don't feel very motivated. Too much attention isn't good either, because I know there are some popular artists out there often being pestered by people who hate them for it. (and if there are ever any for me, I'm just going to ignore them, because responding is only going to give them what they want)
What I'm wondering is what caused this shortage? Judging from all the times I've been away from the blogs, it might probably be the decrease in fans. Then again, not all of my drawings are Star Wars related.
The average "Artwork" drawings were originally intended designs for a Star Wars fanfiction, but I've decided to move on with something more original. Besides, I can't be an obsessive Star Wars fan forever, now can I. What I'm saying is I'm still a fan, but I'm expanding my interests. It can be obvious through some of my drawings, in that some of them are fan drawings for other franchises, and some of the original fanfiction designs aren't really that Star Warsy. (that just shows I've got style and creativity; we do need something a little different from the normal parts of Star Wars after all)
The comics, AKA Gahmix, are still in development. Despite a promotional poster, a logo, and a few short Halloween comics, there's barely enough hype for me to really get working on them. (and I'm still trying to draw up the stuff for the first set of Artoo Meat-too comics)
Also, I don't update very often. I usually update at least once a month. I can understand how that can cause a lack of interest, but I have reasons for not updating so much: 1. Time to work on them - I don't always have time to draw them or do the computer stuff, because I usually have my own other problems. 2. Free time - You think I spend all my time drawing? Hey, I've gotta have a little fun time away from drawing and life's other litter! Besides, I look to other stuff to expand my ideas. 3. For now, it's just a hobby - It's neither a life project of mine nor something I'm being paid for.
Don't worry, I will continue to post drawings here, even if they are not Star Wars related.
Oh sure, they could be looking at them just through Photobucket, but at least I get to leave an artist's commentary on the blog updates. I do realize that blogs shouldn't be posted for comments and that you don't have to post a comment on every blog you read, but a little more praise or criticism (that excludes flaming) wouldn't hurt. It would help me know what I do good and what needs to be fixed/improved. Besides, don't non-hired web artist's post these drawings on the 'net to entertain? That's what I'm trying to do for you guys, and the comics are really meant to entertain.
To tell you guys the truth, I enjoy drawing more than I do ranting, and it saddens me that what I enjoy most is seemingly not as looked upon as my rants, and I actually wish it was the biggest attraction of my blog instead of the rants.
It would be nice if anyone could tell me what I could do to appeal. Otherwise, I think I should spread my work to other sites for posting this kind of stuff.
