I've read this databank entry on the Techno Union foreman,
Wat Tambor, and it says that his species will decompress and explode like a thermal detonator (which means it is very dangerous) if exposed to medium (our level) or low (space) pressure atmospheres. As to humans being exposed to low pressure, they will explode, whether they are dead or alive.
What is strange is that Anakin has killed some Skakoans, while damaging their pressure suits, without making them explode and killing him.
Here are two instances I know of he survived in:
- Clone Wars: Volume II: Chapter 25 - On Nelvaan, when he force choked that last Techno Union scientist, he didn't explode, but seemed to implode instead since his body deflated like a balloon leaking air. He obviously used the force to keep the scientists from exploding on him.
- ROTS - You guessed it, Wat Tambor getting killed by Darth Vader on Mustafar. He wasn't the last to die, obviously. I heard he died by being stabbed through the chest while the novelization said he had his arms and head cut off (but that never really happened). When we get a look at the Separatist leaders' bodies, we see Tambor with his corpse in normal condition; in one piece, no blast marks in the room, and strangely, the corpse didn't deflate like the scientists on Nelvaan and some of his suit didn't fall apart. That is where it becomes confusing.
Basically for keeping them exploding, he used the force to contain explosion from within.
I know these were for the sake of keeping it up to PG-13, but I need some support theories about how Vader kept Tambor's body from not only exploding, but deflating also.
Also, what is in a Skakoan's body that makes him/her explode like a grenade; some explosive chemical that reacts to medium/low pressure atmospheres? And how do they not explode if only a small part of their head is exposed (look back at Tambor; part of his head is exposed)?
Now, I must leave.
