I just finished
Sacrifice last night. I am still chewing on everything that happened. I thought I would share some random thoughts and opinions about the book and the series. After reading the first four books I had my doubts about the series. The Darth Who contest was an interesting idea but it also defined some of the pace of the series. It was about half way through
Sacrifice that I realized what bothered me about the previous books. I really did not have any strong connection to the heroes and what they are going through in the books. Jacen explores some fascist fantasy, Ben is a pawn, Jaina is angry (and dealing with some sitcom-like relationship issues), Han and Leia are sad, and Luke and Mara are at odds with eachother. In
Sacrifice I felt a much stronger connection with what the characters are going through.
Some have expressed their doubts about Traviss writing EU novels. I think a lot this comes from the fact that most of her work focuses on the Mandalorians and Clone Troopers. Many fans have mixed feelings about these characters for various reasons. I think Traviss made a strong statement about her ability to contribute to the EU with
Sacrifice. I believe Traviss has proven herself as good as Zahn, Denning, Lucenco and Allston. She is not just the EU's resident Mando expert. Honestly, this is her best SW novel in my opinion.
I am a big fan of Boba Fett and the Mandalorians. I think the Mando fans will be very happy. So many questions!
So how do I feel about LotF now? As pumped as I was at the season finale of BSG! Take me to the
Inferno!
Feel free to comment, although lets try and keep it Spoiler free!
