 | Playing as your favorites characters - is it as great as it should be? |
I am a huge Boba Fett fan, and last night I got to play as the galaxy's greatest bounty hunter in BF2. I couldn't help but get totally stoked, and interupt my wife as she was enjoying her book, "Look, Boba Fett, I get to play as Boba Fett!" Being the super wonderful person she is, she took a break to cheer me on as I blasted clones with my EE3 rifle, cooked 'em with my flame thrower and disintegrated 'em with my wrist rockets.
After catching one laser too many and having to switch back to a storm trooper she asked me, "Was it everything you hoped for?" I thought about it and other than not being able to fly with a jet pack - it was awesome.
However, about 20 years ago (yeah I am that old) I remembered a time when all I needed was an appropiately shaped stick for a blaster, a little imagination and that was it. That got me thinking - what makes the SW games so great? Is it the chance to play as our favorite characters, or is it to be in the SW universe itself? For me its being in the SW universe more than the chance to play as a favorite character.
When I play as a favorite character its great, but for some reason its just as great as as it should be. I think its because I am focused on the objectives and forget its one of my favorite characters I am controlling. Its also the limitations of the game itself, you cannot link together the moves like they appear in the movie (I am certainly not dissing the games - I have a blast everytime I play them).

I don't think it is as cool as it should be becuase LucasArts hasn't made that ultimate game yet. Don't get me wrong, I love the BFs and KOTR, but there hasn't been that great awesome game that has everything we want yet.

Excellent point Darh Rex0. I have Call of Duty 2 for the 360 - it blows me away that you can hear guys sneaking up on you through the surround sound. Hopefully the next generation of SW games for the consoles change my view.

Just being in the universe makes it great.
May the Force be with us all! God bless!

I haven't played BF2 but I've played others, and for me, just being able to use a lightsaber I chose is awesome, I'd love to have a enormously emersive game. Surround sound, RPG format, RTS strategy, ahh. 20 years ago, well I was a good bit, um, more disentigrated? my cloning process hadn't begun. but I know what you mean, I was like that also. I love to combine characters, and am looking emmensly to Lego Star Wars 2, for Jango Fett with a Purple lightsaber.

I definately with you on that one Peter Fett-Secura. If there was a game where you could design your own Mandolorian armor, weapons and career ... well that would certainly require some vacation days from work.

Yes, I love BF2 becuase it is a game that you can play forever and you can relive great scenes from the movies!
Something I like to do with if someone is playing is choose opposite sides, become heroes (or play Mos Eisley). Than, turn Invulnerability on and make an epic battle. It';s fun to fool around with!
P.S. YoshiYoda was rightt, hit jump twice as either the Fett's, Dark Trooper or Jet Trooper to activate your jet-pack.

Ya, before I got a lightsaber, I'd get this piece from the vacuum and use it as my lightsaber! Anything tupe shaped is good for me!

I assume you are referring to BF2. Perhaps not. In anycase there is a lot out there since this blog about upcoming games. It will be interesting to see how things play out. New consoles, no movie projects, etc. Overall I am hoping to see SW version of Halo - a game so well rounded it will appeal to all gamers, not just SW fans. A great overall game maybe the vehicle that makes our dreams of being Luke, Boba or whomever a reality.

To jedimasterninks, I too have a vacuum handle piece for a lightsaber. I like to use them to practice sweet moves I've seen in the games and the movies And to commanderbly, if you go to the level selection of free play, go to Mos Eisley, choose Assault, and you can play all heroes or villians, without the pesky diminishing lightsaber health bar, if you haven't found out yet!! I haven't gotten the new Patch for it yet, but has anyone tried out Kit Fisto's Water Force Power?

Being able to be within the galaxy, and be our greatest heroes...it's like imagination on deathsticks -- but in a good way!!!

I am looking forward to the force unleashed game. I have not downloaded the demo but I am super excited - I think it may be the game that really has a big impact on fans!
