R you ready?

Probably one of the greatest robots (droids) to appear in film history has got to be R2-D2. This amazing little astromech droid saves the day in all 6 films. He is a spy, a pilot, an engineer/mechanic, secret keeper, and a good friend. All of this and he does not speak one line of dialogue in any film.

On top of it all, he is also very funny! When he is teamed up with C3-PO, they are the modern day versions of classic film comedians like Abbott and Costello or Laurel and Hardy.

Though I have not read other stories about him in the Expanded Universe, I am sure that there is much more to his backstory prior to the Phantom Menace (or someone should do it if it has not been done).

What surprises me most is that he knows the story of Anakin/Vader throughout the entire series, but never tells anyone. This is someone you can trust with your deepest secrets.

Back in the original Kenner days, his action figure never quite looked right. He made a strange clicking sound when you turned his dome. I believe I had several versions. His sticker with his body pattern eventually peeled or soiled, so I would use the older ones in play scenes where appropriate like Dagobah.
