I admit that I struggled between a few choices for this one and narrowed it down to my top two!
Before I reveal my ultimate choice, I would like to talk about my close second, See-Threepio (C3-PO). It is difficult to imagine the saga without him. He is like the Tin Man from Oz as he takes Luke, Leia, Padme or Anakin on their adventures. Threepio gives life to R2-D2 as his translator adding to the dynamic comedy duo.
His Kenner figure was one of the earliest I got. But after hours of play, his limbs became so loose that they would spin and he could not stand up. I also had his figure that came apart with a small net to attach to Chewie's back. My favorite collectible of his was the original 12" figure. My mom glued it to a base with Artoo to make a lamp. It was cool at the time, but I think I would have a heart attack if someone did it now. I also enjoyed the talking alarm clock. I remember being jolted from my bed as it went off every morning to get ready for school. I guess that is why it is called an "ALARM" clock.
My ultimate choice for "S" is Stormtroopers. This faceless army of the Galactic Empire were so cool. They carried blaster guns and reported to Darth Vader. They also got to fly Tie Fighters! In later films, they had other armor including Snowtroopers, AT-AT Drivers, and Biker Scouts.
Up until Episode II, I always thought the Stormtroopers might be robots. I am not disappointed that they are not. I like the idea that they are the Clones of the infamous Clone Wars. I like that they can be similar in look and training. but have some distinguishing personalities.
I also chose Stormtroopers because of the 501st Legion. Though I am not a member, I respect the charitable work that this group does in raising money and bringing joy and smiles to children throughout the world.
Back in my younger days, I became a toy army builder but didn't know it. I must have had at least 5 Stormtroopers and 3 Snowtroopers (a small army). I don't recall if I ever had the Biker Scout though. I remember being disappointed because the thumbs of the troops would fall off or be bent too wide. This made it difficult to hold a blaster when you wanted to hold one of the heroes prisoner.
Other honorable mentions for "S" include: Sebulba, Shmi Skywalker, Sy Snootles, and Shaak Ti.
See you tomorrow as it comes time for me to cross my "T's".
