"C is for Chewie, that's good enough for me..."
Forgive me. All I could think of when I selected Chewbacca was breaking into the Cookie Monster song from Sesame Street (another staple from my childhood). Chewbacca was not originally my first choice. I had originally picked C-3PO, but figured that I have a second chance of possibly using him for "S". Ultimately, Chewbacca won out.
Speaking of cookies (were we?), I used to take my Kenner figure of Chewie and put him in milk. It gave him such a new look. I am sure the lead paint did wonders for my digestive system.
I also owned a children's activity book (which I still have) featuring Chewbacca activities, puzzles and games and a recipe for Chewbacca Chewies ( a cookie with a caramel center). It all comes back to cookies.
Chewbacca scared me a little as a child. He was tall, did not speak, and had fangy teeth. I was terrified!
My fears were lightened with the release of the Holiday special. He was friendly and a family man...er , Wookiee. I seem to remember this being better as a child. Oh well.
The ultimate wing man is a great partner, fighter, and friend. He sacrifices himself to Jabba in exchange to save his friend. Additionally, he is quick to join a battle whether it is on his home planet of Kashykk, the Death Star, or Endor.
Although he never received a Medal on Yavin for his courage and heroism, he has won a medal in my heart.
Honorable medals for the following that were also considered for C:
- Cloud City
- Clonetroopers
Until next time, enjoy some Wookie Cookies from the Star Wars Cookbook and may "D" Force be with you!
