 | The Circle is now complete... Sorta. |
I'm 35 strips away from being finished "Reversal of Fortune". By the time you read this... I could already be finished with it all and looking forward to what's next. A part of me is shocked I managed to get through it! There were times where I was behind and would pump out 4 strips in a day to get caught up to where I would have a 3 week cushion and slack off to get myself BACK to being a week ahead.
Craziness.
I want to shake it up for the next project. Maybe go with more of a Comic as oppose to "strip" format. A comic page size to do more storytelling and have serious "Impact" splash pages and make it pop. It would also be more interesting to comic fans and easier to put into a TPB format. Maybe even incorporate color in the next series. Paul and I haven't decided on the next project, but I know I will want a little break in between RoF and the next story. I have another project I HAVE to complete and so taking a bit of time off from the Star Wars Universe would only benefit the next storyline. Not a long break, like a month break and then a month and a half lead time to get way ahead on the artwork and maybe debut the story in September or October. A year after RoF debuted... use San Diego Comic Con and some other cons to get folks excited for it.
Who knows... by the time this hits, it could be all settled. I'm a week away from heading to Indy for C3 and I plan on sitting down with Paul to discuss what's next for Hyperspace and comics. Keep your fingers crossed.
"Something new..."
Those of you who attended C3 (since this will hit well after) may or my not have snagged one of my prints. That was the first piece I've ever done like that. I never used watercolors and/or colored pencils to color. I've been spoiled by Photoshop. I love computer coloring, I do. It's relaxing for me to sit at the computer and color. Anything can be fixed. I started over 4 times with the print. The first two were scrapped because it didn't look like I did them. The characters didn't look like "Tom Hodges" drew them. I know it sounds strange, but I have been told people can pick my work out of a line up. That to me is awesome, it means I have developed my own look, my own style. So I have to scrap them.
The next one looked as if I did it, but the mistakes I make on Padme's eyes were fixed with white touch-up paint and the colors were failing to take to it the same tone as the board... so that was a waste.
Finally, I got it right... under the tutoring of my buddy Randy Martinez, he gave me a Crash Refresher course in painting and colored Pencils. It's been YEARS since I've used either and a first for an important piece. I'm pleased with the end result. Hopefully you were too!
