With the recent announcement from rebelscum that Hasbro is discontinuing the Unleashed line in favor of 2" Unleashed figures, many collectors in the online community are furious. I've never seen such anger directed at a manufacturer as I have over this announcement. And frankly, I can't blame them. As I mentioned
here, my collecting focus has shifted dramatically in the past year. The only thing from Hasbro that I still cared about was the Unleashed line. I have long hoped for a Qui-Gon figure and figured that maybe next year would be the year. Instead, I learn that Hasbro is dumping the whole line in favor of 2" figures. What kind of a stupid idea is this?
I stopped collecting 3 3/4" figures because the likenesses were hit and miss(mostly miss), the paint jobs were poor(see ROTS #28 Anakin where it looks like he raided Padme's makeup drawer) and some figures bore more resemblance to monkeys than humans. But the Unleashed were great. The larger scale made for outstanding sculpts, accurate paint jobs, and realistic looking figures, not to mention some dynamic poses that capture the essence of who the characters are.
But now, Hasbro is giving all of that up in favor of 2" figures that they have the audacity to call Unleashed. You can't unleash 2" worth of plastic. Now I don't care if they want to try a 2" line, but dropping Unleashed in favor of it is ridiculous. What are they going to unleash? Mouse droids? So, if anyone at Hasbro wonders why the line really starts to suffer, perhaps they can talk to Gentle Giant and Master Replicas. They're about to see a lot more of my collecting budget.
