Well, I've done it. Starting at 8:00am and ending at 10:43pm, I watched in consecutive order all six Star Wars films starting with Episode I and ending with Episode VI. Now for a few of the things I've noticed after watching all six movies in one day.
1. It makes for a very long day. I've done it once, and I'll probably never do it again.
2. It's very cool seeing the saga unfold like that. There's more emotion when you see Return of the Jedi not long after seeing Revenge of the Sith. You see how Anakin and Luke's trial mirrored each other with Anakin seeing Palpatine do to Luke what he did to Mace Windu. There are a lot of double meaning lines from Palpatine in ROTJ that don't become clear until ROTS.
3. 3PO and R2-D2's relationship in the OT is something to see. R2-D2 knows exactly what he's doing and why he's doing it. He also has confidence that everything will be fine because he knows and remembers what Jedi are capable of doing.
4. Leia's memories of Padme are
not inconsistent with the end of ROTS. She remembered images, thoughts and feelings. Padme was very beautiful, kind, but sad. That is all within the realm of what we see at the end. How Leia has those memories is whole different point.
5. As many others have noted, there is a real emotional connection at the beginning of ANH. Leia's theme and Luke's theme are even more powerful than before since we understand just how important they are. When Obi-Wan is talking to R2-D2 for the first time, we sense that he knows the time is now at hand.
6. R2-D2 lets Yoda have the flashlight
before Luke tells him to give it to Yoda. It's as if R2-D2 recognizes Yoda and very wisely decides to give up the battle over a flashlight. At another point which now escapes me, Vader is being discussed and R2-D2 very wisely doesn't emit a single beep that might reveal something that a character isn't ready to handle yet.
