OT: Harry Potter Book 7 release date announced! |
So, on 7/21/07, Harry Potter's adventures will come to an end. The first book in the series was first released on July 1, 1997 in Britain, and then in America September of 1998. I myself got into the books a bit late in the game (after the 4th book had been released), but well remember my introduction into the Harry Potter universe. It was around the time when the first film adaptation came out. I began reading them to get more acquainted with the story before seeing the movie, but found that I enjoyed them immensely. The only drawback I can think of in reading the books like this is the fact that I was never able to develop in my own mind what a lot of the characters and settings looked like, at least for the first book. Whenever I picture Harry, Ron, Hermione, and all the rest in my head, they all look like their film counterparts. While SW comes first and foremost in my fandom, I still have room for a certain boy wizard (although not so much a boy anymore, is he?) That's another thing that is so great about these books, is that Rowling has really given her characters room to grow and mature. The Harry we are introduced to in SS has now become a young man with his own challenges to face, some of which will change his world, and the world of all around him, forever. He has experienced love and loss, the deepest despair and the greatest hope. It just really seems so weird to me that the story is almost over. At least with Star Wars, we get so much of the EU to enjoy after the films are done. But J.K. Rowling has said over and over again that this is it. So, as the final chapter in this 7-part saga nears ever closer, what is in store for our Harry? There is endless speculation on the web as to that answer, and it will be interesting to see how many of the fan's theories and predictions come true. I know I have my own, and I'm sure you do, too. But whatever happens, I'm certain Mrs. Rowling won't let us down. Harry's final adventure is sure to be one to remember.
