Last night we watched
Episode I. I warned her ahead of time, "This is my least favorite of the six, so all you have to do is make it through
this one and the rest are better." Aside from her adoring comments about Ewan McGregor, things went very well indeed.
There were of course things she didn't like, but it was very interesting to watch it with someone coming into this universe relatively cold. I was surprised when she said, "Jar-Jar sounds Jamaican" and "that blue guy sounds Jewish". Because really I thought those were overblown stereotypes. I personally didn't even pick up on them when I viewed it the first time. I asked if they sounded offensive. She didn't think so. I asked her if the Neimoidians sounded Asian. She said they just sounded "retarded". Yikes.
It was interesting too that she picked up right away that Palpatine and Sidious were one and the same. I never understood that whole movement that claimed otherwise.
I asked her if she thought Anakin
would ever see his mother again. She said, "I think so. But he'll probably kill her or something." Cute, huh? I like her.
When the movie was over, she said she actually
liked it. That quite surprised me. I pretty much thought she was humoring me because I wanted her to watch them. In fact, she liked it so much that she wants to watch Episode II tonight! Then tomorrow night, it's off to the cinema.
Star Wars is good. My lady is good.
I'll give a full (or abbreviated) report on Episode II (depending on my mood).
Rawk on,
...twineball...
