So first let me say, that even though I wasn't honest with everyone about it, the first time I saw the previews for the newest film I was totally crushed. I had enjoyed the Clone Wars cartoons on cartoon network and bought the first season on DVD as soon as it came out. When I first heard talk of the new movie being animated I immediately jumped to the conclusion that it would be similar to the cartoon network series. I was sooooooo wrong. But let me get to the point; here's a list of things from the new movie that made me wish that I hadn't spent all that time reading interviews with the creators, watching previews, and waiting anxiously for tickets to go on sale online.
-The Story (or lack thereof): Almost every clone wars story I have read in novels, comics, or seen in the first tv series have been much more interesting than this one. There were no plot twists, and overall, there wasn't even an incentive to continue watching. Overall, the whole movie seemed a bit hollow. (more below)
-The Animation: Total disappointment. The point wasn't to be photorealistic, but why not just go for that, if the only other choice is the look of a ####ty videogame. The lips didn't match the dialogue and everyone's hair didn't move. That's just small stuff compared the lame landscapes.
-Ashoka: The only use of Ashoka was to draw a young female audience to Star Wars. But she just turned out being a bulimic looking, tube top wearing teenager, similar looking to the 'brats' dolls that I've seen on tv. A terrible role model for any girl. LAY OFF THE NICKNAMES! artooey, stinky, cmon. Right off the bat she calls Anakin "skyguy." Since when would that ever be acceptable in a padawan/master relationship. I would have been happier if they decided to make Jar Jar a jedi for the film.
-The Hutts: Jabba was done terribly and his son was, well, just plain stupid. The comic relief just ended up ruining the movie for me. As for zero(?) the Hutt, well it just blew my mind that someone even thought him up.
The Music- If John Williams was dead I would say that he would be turning in his grave, but he isn't so I don't know what to say.
-The battledroids: Make you wonder why the CIS is a threat to the republic to begin with.
I could go on and on, but I think for my first blog entry, this is a lot of ranting. Maybe next time I'll think it out a bit more. Next entry, after I do some research, then I can find out how long the time period that the tv series with Ashoka can take place in (extremely limited methinks).
-The Vaapad Samurai
P.S. would somebody please tell me why the Legacy of the force symbols are used on the shoulders of the Jedi? Even when they weren't throughout the entire clone wars, besides this film.
