 | A letter to Darth Vader |
My letter to Princess Leia was pretty popular the day I wrote it. Which got me thinking. Maybe it's time to write the one I was originally going to write in the first place. You guessed it.....Darth Vader. ![]:)](http://blogs.starwars.com/share/img/emoticons/devil.gif) . Why didn't I write it before, you ask??? I've been thinking about it, but the wording was all wrong at the time. But it still was kicking around in my noggin, so I decided now would be a good time. After all, I have been on the site for almost a year now. A year??? Has it been that long???? Yup. Hard to believe, itsn't it. Of course my official membership to Hyperspace didn't begin until August. About a month before that is when I began leaving comments on some of your blogs. When I finally got the money, then I took my first plunge. The rest is history. So, with that in mind, here is my letter to our favorite Sith Lord.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Darth Vader,
You and I have never met. You are from the fictitious Galaxy Far Far Away (or GFFA as we term it). I come from the real world.
I am writing to you because watching the events that brought you to the Dark Side is not an easy thing for me. I find it quite disturbing, actually. As an emotional person myself, your battle with the Dark Side really gets to me. Watching you turn from being a Jedi Knight to a Sith Lord is not easy for me, even though I have watched the saga many times. Your choices are quite disturbing, though to a point one can understand why you made the choices you did. Could you have made different choices, and avoided the path to the Dark Side altogether??? Maybe. Maybe not.
You did not have to make the choices you did. You chose to kill all the Tusken Raiders in revenge for your mother's death. You didn't have to choose to do so. Revenge was a natural reaction, though. That's being human. I felt sorrow for you when you used your blade against them. Would I have done the same if it happened to me??? Probably. Could your decision have been different??? I honestly can't say. Your choice to kill Count Dooku didn't have to be made, either. He could have lived to stand trial, just as you originally wanted. I probably would not have chose to kill him. That to me was uncalled for. But again, the Dark Side took over. That scares me. I don't think I could do that to somebody.Knowing Palpatine was Darth Sidious, you could have chosen to not listen to him and follow the Jedi way. You chose to become Darth Vader. You chose to be the scourge of the Jedi, to hunt them to extinction. That choice didn't have to be made either. That's even scarier. It really bothered me. Then there is the events on Mustafar. I felt like crying. I think I did the first few times I watched those scenes unfurl onscreen. That was what really sent you to the Dark Side. I still get emotional over it to this day. Could you have listened to your wife and your friend??? Could they have swayed you back before it was too late???? Maybe. Maybe not. It still hurts me to watch it, even though I've seen it dozens of times. Probably because I try and find ways you could have avoided going to the Dark Side. But I never really do.
Of course, if you had made other choices--choices which would have not taken you to the Dark Side-- Darth Vader would not have existed in the first place, and the saga would not have been a story of redemption. It would have been a different story altogether. Maybe that's why you appeal to me, and why I chose to put your name in my screen name.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you enjoyed my letter. Just hope he doesn't decide to Force choke me in the process

Is it strange that I actually want to respond to this letter..don't answer that!
No, but isn't it strange that a fan of Kenobi answered it first????

I wonder what Vader's reaction would be when he finds out that you're writing to him from the real world.

Good letter! I think it captures many of the things we feel about our scary villain / hero. Let us know if he responds!

Don't know. Not sure if I want to know. But oh, well. I wrote it anyhow!

Glad you liked it. I feel the same way, which is why I wrote it. His response will be scary indeed!!

I agree, although I am glad in a way that he did turn to the dark side or the saga wouldn't have had one of it's most kick butt characters!

Hmmm.... I like this line of thought.
With regard to Mustafar though, I would probably want to know what really was the trigger. Was Anakin already so far gone that he would have argued with Padme and harmed her, ultimately killing her, or would he have been talked into returning to Naboo with her to raise Luke and Leia had Obi-Wan not appeared.. Well, as we know, had that happened our beloved movies wouldn't be the same.
Or would they.

One way or another, Palps would have had Anakin working for him. After all, he had his sights on our beloved high-midachlorian count man from the end of TPM. So, if it hadn't happened on Mustafar, it would have happened somewhere else - some other time.
As you know, I try to keep my responses to the hypotheticals true to the movies... but the EU, well, that tells us a more complete story - doesn't it?
Great blog VG!

I ask myself that, too. To this day, I still am not sure. Was it the fact he wasn't listening to his wife's pleas??? Or was it seeing Obi-wan on the ship she came in??? We may never know the real reason, but the saga would definitely have been different had he listened to either of them.
Nice, VG!!
Thanks, HG!!

If I were to write a letter to DV, I would have said practically the same things you did. Great job!

Very good question! I'd like to think that if Obi-Wan hadn't shown up, and Ani and Padme could have talked some more, Ani would have seen how devastated she was, and maybe that would have been enough to snap him out of it. Maybe.
Or maybe he just would have continued to think that she didn't trust him and his "new powers".

Thanks, E&HF5. Glad we are thinking alike today.

Probably, and that's pretty scary. Great thoughts.

Choking people over the phone....it's just boss!
Great letter!!!!!
Or was it seeing Obi-wan on the ship she came in
I think it to be a combination of "knowing" he may have done the wrong thing and then seeing Obi-Wan sparked the jealous rage. He knew why Obi-Wan was there and if he passed, Padme would surely run to Obi-Wan for comfort. She had already listened to Obi and Anakin saw her bring Obi-Wan to get him, though it was a wrong conception.

Yes, he knew. And she probably would have. That probably set him off, seeing his friend (or former friend) aboard his wife's ship. I can see where he thought exactly what he did.
Good call.

Very nice letter!!
so many questions, so little answers. Who know things would have turned out if Obi-wan hadn't shown up when he did.
I thought about that, too. Things would have been vastly diffterent, IMO. Thanks, leia
Excellent! Wow, VG! I got a little misty reading this letter! How terribly tragic DV's life was!
It was tragic. Makes one feel kinda sorry for him, doesn't it?? Glad you liked it!!

I'd like to think that if Obi-Wan hadn't shown up, and Ani and Padme could have talked . . . maybe that would have been enough to snap him out of it.
I used to think there was the possibility that Anakin might have changed paths had Obi-wan not appeared, but I've long since abandoned that way of thinking. He chose the life he did - supposedly out of love for Padme. That reason only scratches the surface. Anakin showed signs of his true calling back in AOTC (and I'm not talking about his actions after his mother died). Sadly, is turn was inevitable.
vg, interesting letter. Thanks for sharing!

That's how he thought of it. Great point.
I agree, it was inevitable that he turned to the Dark Side. And, yes, he showed signs before his mother's death. Very sad.

We saw the signs of the imbalance in TPM.... he got awfully angry when Padme called him a slave.
My thought on the 'he did it for Padme' has been long abandoned as well. He did what he wanted to do because HE wanted to .... because it would benefit HIM (or so he thought).
So many thoughts, so little time.

Too true, WoV. Unfortunately, he found out differently. But he still stuck with it until ROTJ.

Of course he wouldn't be the baddest baddie in the OT if he didn't
Which is, of course, why we like him so darn much!
I can't imagine the entire series with whining Anakin blabbing about this and that way that he couldn't get and how no-one appreciates him or understands him - that everyone under-estimates him.
BAH!
I much prefer him the way he turned out. Strong and powerful!
**Sigh**

Let us not forget that Anakin (Darth Vader) was the Choosen One, and to bring balance to the Force! I would think, you would have to experience both side of the Force to acheive that goaled?
So! "What If" does not apply. Darth Vader Did Bring Balance to the Force. The Birth of Leia and Luke. Think about it?

Maybe...but I was speaking of Vader. I wasn't trying to reach his other personality (Anakin, his true self). Thanks for commenting!!
