 | Did the GFFA celebrate Thanksgiving???? I think so |
Wow!!! The year sure went by fast!! Next week is Thanksgiving. And Christmas and the New Year are right behind it next month. I can't believe how much time has gone by.
It got me thinking about what I am thankful for. I believe I am thankful for a lot of things. The love and support of my family and friends when times were good, and when they weren't so good. I am thankful to God for being there through the good and bad times. I am thankful for the fact my family puts up with this fandom. I know they think it's silly, but they love me anyway!! Which gets me thinking of our GFFA. I wonder if our favorite characters from the GFFA ever had a celebration to be thankful for what they did have. Hmm........I think they did. Let me explain.
The people of the Republic were thankful that they had someone (Palpatine) to hold things together as they saw their republic crumble. They looked to him for the leadership they thought they needed to hold the Galaxy together. They applauded when he turned it from a Republic to and Empire because they believed in him. Little did they know his sight was on personal gain, not the betterment of the Galaxy.
Anakin did not always show it, but I do believe deep down he was thankful for the teachings Obi-wan gave him. Unfortunately, he wasn't always appreciative of it, and looked elsewhere (Palpatine) for the rest. He was also grateful of Padme. She held him together until the Dark Side blinded him to what he should have seen.
And Padme was thankful someone was willing to care for and raise her children when she died because she didn't want her husband to have them once she realized he was no longer Anakin, but Darth Vader. She also had the support of her family to back her up for what she believed in. And for Obi-wan's friendship.
The people of the Rebel Alliance were thankful they had enough support to launch a full-scale war against Palpatine's Empire. Without the support, the Alliance would have crumbled before it even began.
Luke and Leia were thankful for having someone willing to care for them growing up. Luke had his Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen, while Leia had the Organas. They were also grateful for the support they gave each other when they finally joined forces. They also had lots of friends to help them on the way. Luke and Leia were thankful they even found out they were siblings- they belonged together as a family. And Luke was grateful he was able to persuade his father to return from the Dark Side, even though he died in the process.
The Rebel Alliance was also thankful they were able to defeat Palpatine's Empire and begin rebuilding the Republic the Galaxy held dear.
In short, the people of our GFFA had lots to be thankful for, whether times were easy or hard. Just like real life. I'm sure you can add more examples. So, here's my question:
What are you thankful for??

I'm thankful for life, family, and DirecTV.
It's interesting... three of the six films end on celebrations, which are essentially designed to honor and thank the heroes. The other three are private moments of reflection. I think most good people are experiencing either one or the other at any given moment.

Very nice blog!
Being Canadian, we've already had our Thanksgiving weekend, but I'm always thankful for my family, my friends, my health, Stooge's daily jokes, and of course the SW saga, which brings with it all these wonderful blogs and our blogging family!

Excellent blog VG33!
I, like you, am thankful for the friends that I have - both here and IRL.
I am thankful for the life I have now which, save for the ups and downs, has been pretty darn good. It's wonderful to look forward to the holidays rather than dread them as I used to. Yes, there's a story there but, most here have already heard it.
I am thankful for my parents. Without them, life would be much different as they are the hands of time that keep all things moving. My Dad especially... he is my life line and I his - well, his grandchildren trump me but, you get the idea.
Indeed, where has this year gone? Flown by like the wind I tell you....
Happy Thanksgiving, VG. I am glad we're friends.
MWAH!

I am thankful for my wife, our pets (Smuckers & Jif -cats and Murray - the dog), our families, our friends, and the all SW peeps. With all that support its hard to stay in a bad mood for long .
I am also thankful that life has stayed so interesting - with the wife looking for a new job that could take us to the Northwest and the new dog everyday is something new. Who said you had to settle down by your 30's?

That's a problem. Lots of people have lots to be thankful for. It makes it hard to chose which to put down. Thanks for commenting.

The itemized list is much too long to list in the measley 750 characters we're allowed! In a nutshell, vg, heading my list are my wonderful husband, two beautiful children, my friends in and outside our GFFA community, our two furballs and every breath I take. As I said, the comprehensive list is quite long. However, these priceless bonds are what top my list - 365 days a year!
Have a wonderful holiday season.

Well, all the above comments have pretty much covered what I'm thankful for. I'll just add that the people of the GFFA should be thankful for R2D2 saving Queen Amidala's ship in TPM, otherwise they'd be without Luke & Leia.
Beautiful entry!

Wow!!! The year sure went by fast!!
Yeah...no kidding!! Well you know what they say...time flies when you're having fun
Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday
