I keep seeing posts where people talk about Anakin fulfilling the Prophecy both in wiping out the Jedi Order and throwing the last Sith to his doom and thus bringing balance to the Force.
The Sith had it coming but did the Jedi?
People usually point to the dogmatic, almost oppresive beliefs of the Jedi Order who had a narrow view of the Force. They had to go and a New Order had to be reinstated thus Anakin fulfilled the prophecy by taking away the oppression of the good and the oppression of the bad.
It's quite true that there is a certain degree of brainwashing in the Old Jedi Order. A Jedi shall not feel hate, nor love, nor anger. Quite frankly a Jedi shall not feel. A Jedi shall always keep his cool because ones feeling can betray you. The Jedi recruit babies at the age of 6 months which means these children grow up with having no feelings but a sense of duty. This is a stark contrast to the New Jedi Order where most are teens and have developed feelings and such. Has Luke Skywalker taken a gamble or was the Jedi Order wrong when it came to feelings?
To understand this, we must take a look at Anakin. He entered the Order at the age of 10-11 and had already developed feelings. He had already felt love with his mum and in the presence of Padmé, had already felt hatred in the presence of Sebulba (or at least contempt) and he had felt anger at Padmé because he wasn't seen as a person. He couldn't operate as a Jedi since his emotional life was in full swing. Also, they're taking in a kid just about around the time he is going to hit puberty. How smart is that?
Alas, the prophecy of the chosen one was too alluring and the Jedi took him in which they would regret thirteen years later.
I don't believe that the Jedi Order was corrupt, so what was their great sin?
They had become complacent, they had become overconfident in their abilities. They were arrogant. They had been lulled into a false sense of security that by the outbreak of the Clone Wars was hard to come out of.
Not even faced with the Sith can they believe it is true. "
The Sith have been extinct for a millenia" says Mace Windu in disbelief.
It took them 13 years to discover that indeed that the Sith was behind the corruption of the Old Republic and they paid the price. The whole Jedi Order could not discover one Sith that held the whole Republic in his grasp. The Sith had been planning for years, adapting to the time and taking of the complacency of the Jedi whilst the Jedi were still stuck in the old times thinking that everything was allright
A New Order had to arise, one that was constantly vigilante. The Jedi had grown to sure in their ability to keep peace or even fight wars.
When it comes to the indoctrination or oppression of the Jedi beliefs I think it's right. Take a look at Anakin. He broke everything in the Jedi Code and ended up as Darth Vader.
Some may point that the oppressive and narrowminded nature of the Jedi might have helped Anakin along and sure, that could have happened but we must not forget that he was too old. Had he been six months old, then there might have been a different story
A Jedi shall not feel anger (Anakin angry at Obi-Wan)
A Jedi shall not feel hatred (Anakins hatred for the Tusken Raiders)
A Jedi shall not feel love (Anakins love for Padmé)
A Jedi shall not feel fear (Anakins fear of losing Padmé)
A Jedi shall not have any attachment (Anakins love for Padmé again)
He broke every law that kept one from the dark side.
The Force is a strong power. We have learnt that it can both control our action and that we can use it in
A New Hope. The Force is strong and not something that should be taken lightly and after several near escapes from extinction, the Jedi Order must have set up guidelines to stop this. It worked up until the events of
Revenge of the Sith. The fact that this indoctrination worked for several thousands of years must point to the fact that the Jedi were on the right track. There must be some kind of small way to control this almost uncontrolable power, there must be some kind of restriction otherwise there would be loads of passion battles even within the own order and that's what they did. They
had to do it because the Force is so unpredictable in the control/be controlled situation
That's why I'm sceptical to the New Jedi Order. Much older recruits with full emotional lifes, Luke Skywalker who was way older then Anakin when he started training and that Luke has an attachment to Mara Jade. If those things caused the downfall of Anakin what will happen to the New Jedi Order?
The only horrible thing the Jedi ever did was to become arrogant.
