So today I had an important test in English and the subject was movie. What's your favourite movie? Easy! I love movies and I picked my two favourites ones to write about, one (several, really) being the Star Wars-series. The questions were pretty standard:
What is it about? Where did you see it? What was your reaction to it? and so on...
All easy questions to answer but there was one that had me thinking. What did you learn?
What did you learn?
Yeah, what have I learnt?
And I'm sitting there, lifetime long fan, endless discusser of Star Warsy stuff and I can't form an answer. It just stops right there. It's almost embarrassing. So I scribble down an answer and this is more or less how it went:
I don't know if I've learnt anything from Star Wars. It's not really that kind of movie. Since its epic, like a myth, I think it depends a lot on you which lessons you've learned. I think I'll have to ponder this question a bit more...
And that's the answer I'm sticking too. I do think a lot depends on what kind of fan you are. Some might think that the lesson is to embrace your destiny, that the ends never justify the means, that you should never deny your true feelings or just never judge someone by their size.
I just believe that pinpointing one lesson is too hard of a thing to do. The story and themes of Star Wars entail so much and are wide-ranging
I still feel that I have to watch all six movies several more times to find one all encompassing lesson from it. Heck, I think I need to see every movie individually to get out some kind of lesson from them.
So that's it folks, I'm confused and kind of surprised that this isn't something I've thought of before. It's odd thinking that I had no problem picking out a lesson from the movie I wrote about alongside Star Wars was
Good Night and Good Luck (always use the truth and facts. There's nothing better to have by your side).
Anyhoo, as to not look totally clueless I wrote down something I've learnt, and that is to always let the Wookiee win.
