I was watching the trailer for Battlefront II (thrilled about it. It looks so good) seeing the battlefields of
Revenge of the Sith unfolding, seeing the clones and jedi kicking butt and so on and then all of a sudden Darth Maul appears. What the...? Darth Maul?
So I had to recollect my memories of
The Phantom Menace. Lets see...there was 1 battle on Naboo and Darth Maul wasn't a part of it in the way you are in Battlefront. Oh yeah, the trailer didn't even show him on Naboo. He was on Tatooine. And he wasn't in the desert. He was in a town (most likely Mos Espa)
Tatooine? There was definetly not a battle in Mos Espa or on Tatooine at all during
The Phantom Menace so what was he doing in the game?
One would think that the developers have just gone around the movies and put a battle in Mos Espa with Darth Maul. They have already done that with the Death Star in
A New Hope so why not with Mos Espa?
The problem is though that there aren't any new factions announced, I'm even sure that Lucasart have announced that there will be
no new factions at all in Battlefront II. So are we gonna have clones and battledroids fighting in Mos Espa 10 years before the actual events turning Battlefront II into a Timeline Nightmare?
Of course not, they can't be so stupid. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they "resurrected" Darth Maul and put him in the game because Darth Maul is KOOL!
Why can't people give the fella a break? Yes, Darth Maul is cool and without doubt the most mysterious character of the Star Wars galaxy (aside from Sifo-Dyas and Darth Plagueis, both of them are however never onscreen) and yes, he's a part of one of the most spectacular lightsaber duels ever to grace the Star Wars movies, but he was on the losing end of it.
Why do people insist that he must have come back and that he never really dies? If I remember rightly, some hoped to see him back in
Revenge of the Sith. I mean, the guy was cut in half for crying out loud. You could even see his soul escape his body (the red mist that appears when Obi-Wan stabs Maul) and the fact that he fell down a reactor shaft clearly indicates that Darth Maul is very, very dead and will have no further part in Star Wars.
But stories where Maul returns as a clone or
Star Wars Visionaries just encourage some hard-core Maul fans that he is alive and well. Most of the EU is detached from the movies with a few exceptions. Maul is dead as stated in the most official of sources, the Star Wars.com Databank:
Calming himself by calling upon the light side of the Force, Kenobi was able to surprise Maul, and cleave him in half with his saber.
A pained look of bewilderment crossed Maul's tattooed face as death overtook him.His body fell into the melting pit, splitting in two as it tumbled into oblivion.
Yep, lets leave Maul alone shall we?
Geez, next thing you know Dooku and Greivous will appear in the timeline between
Revenge of the Sith and
A New Hope
