In the light of the Stephen Colbert Star Wars Greenscreen challenge (you can see some of the videos
here), I've come up with a proposition:
Due to the immense acrobatic, saber-wielding, space-monster killing skills of Stephen Colbert, the host of Comedy Centrals
The Colbert Réport, I suggest that the good man should receive a cameo in the up and coming Star Wars tv-series as a Jedi. Since we don't know the plot of the live tv-series that takes place inbetween Episodes III and IV, this might pose a problem. There might not be any planned appearances by the Jedi. But then again, Jedi are in every movie and almost every piece of EU literature. They're an essential piece to the whole mythology so I'm sure they could fit him in somewhere without any problems.
Or on the other hand instead of being in the live tv-series, Colbert could do the voice for a character in the 3-D Clone Wars series.
But wait a minute! some might say. Celebrity cameos has been tried before and it wasn't well received by the fans. Look at N'SYNC for example. That didn't float at all well with the fans and it was eventually stopped. Fans felt that the Star Wars franchise was being sold out. Why should this be any different?
Well, this is what I would answer them:
Stephen Colbert is just like us. He's a fan. The same could be said about the N'SYNC guys I guess but what makes Stephen Colbert a different fan from them is that he's geeky and he isn't afraid to admit it, as he has proved on several occasions. I mean, he can talk a long time about his exploits at
Dungeons and Dragons or what he knows about
Lord of the Rings (a lot!). The N'SYNC guys have to put on some facade of being cool, because lets face it, how many of their fans would've liked to see them geek out? Stephen Colbert is just like us and we have an easier time relating to him than to pretty pop sensations that fade into obscurity fast.
Also, I think that Stephen Colbert is more popular with the average Star Wars fans than N'SYNC ever was and that his cameo (if there ever was one) wouldn't annoy as many as the N'SYNC suggestion did.
So that's my suggestion:
Give Stephen Colbert a cameo in any of the up and coming Star Wars tv-series projects.
And heck, why not throw in Jon Stewart for equal measure, he's just as fanboyish as Stephen Colbert.
Who's with me?
