To me, Halloween is the holiday that kicks off the holiday season. Especially now that I am adult. Halloween comes and the time between then and Thanksgiving & Christmas just blurs by and before I know it it's New Year's Day!
Anyway...
In 1993, I saw the original theatrical release of a movie that almost everyone was raving about. It was made in a new style, "state of the art" cinematography so, it was all the rage. The movie? Tim Burton's
The Nightmare Before Christmas.
After the movie was released on VHS (I am dating myself here), I began a tradition. Each Halloween, after I was done doing whatever celebration I was doing that year (I was, afterall, 21+), I would watch Nightmare to kick off the holiday season. Those of you who have seen it, understand why.
This tradition has now been passed on to my children - ages 7 & 10 - who also love the movie and can't wait to get home from trick or treating so we can watch the movie together.
I remember the night me and my friends saw it in the theatre. I loved it! They thought it was horrible. And that's the way the reviews were about Nightmare - you either loved it or hated it - there was NO in between.
Now, some 14 years later, it's coming back! Bigger and better than ever. On October 19th, 2007, Nightmare will be re-released for the Halloween rush. Not in just a refinished format - oh no - this time they are going 3D with it and I can hardly wait!
If you haven't seen it, I strongly suggest it. If you have - did you like it?
