Darth......Disapproving
Well.........from the looks of it, not very many people liked the Top Five "Sith" names. I can understand that........people came up with a name, it was'nt chosen. So the names that are not theirs, are now bad. Some say that the name should have been left to the Authors or LFL, I say, any chance we get to create a name or other....thing for Star Wars, we should be thankful they include us in it. I myself did not approve of the names, but the Authors did. So, maby you should think of this- Im sure Karen Traviss has already started on Sacrafice( if not, someone correct me ), so that means she needs a name that will work into the storyline. Of all of the names, those five, somehow fit into it. Any other name would mean rewriting the plot, storyline or whatever.(I'm not a writer)

Anyways.............
I'm just interested in how she explains why Jacen chose the name and the reason he chose it.
Hey, even though some of you (not all) dissaprove of the names, be happy for the fans who came up with them. I'm sure for them, this is a dream come true...or not

Here is some names that other people came up with when they responded to my other blog, which, by the way, probably has the most responses to than any of my other blogs. Glad to know people read this stuff.

I submitted Darth Malliss, which I knew didn't stand a chance, but it's cool enough that I'm going to name my first born child this.

Really, I think what is alienating a lot of filks is the fact that choosing a Sith name is a spoiler in and of itself. There are purists out there, that by even seeing that there WAS a contest, has tainted their pure nature.
I, personally, could care less. Not that any of the names aren't good, they all have as much a chance as any, but it just isn't anything that exciting for me and I think many others.
Good luck for those in the top five, sorry for those not.

Malliss. That is a good name. I can see your child missing class, though, and some comment being made about Absence Of Malice. Good name none the less.

Nope, not me. I didn't come up with a name, therefore my reasons are unexplainable. However, I'm starting to warm to them.

Well, you did'nt even get a chance to submit a name, seeing as how it was only open to the U.S.

yodabud3 - Thanks for the listing because I saw at least 3 or 4 that I liked way better than the official list. I'm not mad about not getting picked, but I was expecting to be wowed by a new Sith name. Like when I first heard about "Darth Plagueis", it was chilling and exhilarating. Paxis? Taral? Judicar???

I like Morgus and Malliss, too.

My entry was Darth Viscerous (from "eviscerate")--cause Jacen was going to gut the galaxy, his jedi training, and his well earned hero image (not to mention some prominent Jedi, Luke perhaps?). I was somewhat dissappointed to learn he was going to become a sith, but eventually I got onboard and I hope they do something like this contest in the future. But, I thought his name should at least be menacing and I think mine was more so than the finalists--regardless of meaning. Maybe that's just sour grapes. Congrats to the finalists!

And he (or she) would laugh evilly in the face of the Principal.

Just the Malliss part though...right?
Now that I'm living near LA, if I have a girl, she can be Malliss in Wonderland. ;)

we should be thankful they include us in it.

Well put, we should be grateful for this chance to be a part of SW history, I know I am enjoying every moment of it.

My name was Darth Aequalis. (The A is silent like in Aesop's Fables). There are so many ties to EQUAL - he is a twin; he wants to be equal to Luke (forever in the shadow of the great Jedi Master); he wants to be equal to his grandfather Anakin. He's going to the Dark Side to save his family like Anakin did - which actually brought about the horrible consequences. I was very sad when my word wasn't taken.

I must admit I was disappointed in the quality of the choices - maybe if they had explained the meaning behind them. I don't mean to sound like sour grapes here - sorry if I do. I immediately went to the internet to find what the words meant and had a hard time.

I teach 3rd grade and my classroom is decorated with Star Wars posters and toys and stuff. (We even have a Star Wars Day in May when the whole grade comes dressed up in costume! I I was Barriss Offee.) I shared the contest with my class and they were all bummed that my name wasn't chosen too. :D

But I do congratulate the winners. Maybe they will post and explain their meanings.

I didn't submit mine, but I would've liked Darth Cytovir. I thought of this creation through scrambling the word victory. I thought it sounded cool.

how bout Darth Wraethos (which is Greek for wrath)? One of the dictionary definitions states that wrath can be devine intervention, usually very bad to whomever it is happening to (exempli gratia: Sodom and Gamorrah), however I thought it could be interpreted through the star wars lens that Jacen would be bringing the devine wrath of the Force down upon it's would be unbelievers. Jacen is obviously too entrenched in the dark side to know right from wrong. We're already seeing it in Tempest and it will only get worse. He will continue to bring the devine justice of the Force to his enemies

That's right, the choice of five was not so extra !
So, I can easily propose Darth Soloson.

I say, any chance we get to create a name or other....thing for Star Wars, we should be thankful they include us in it.

I've given the contest some thought, and I think you're right. It is pretty cool that they let fans participate in the whole process. I feel somewhat better now about the names that were chosen than I originally did, and I'm curious to see what one is finally selected. I'm still pulling for "Darth Acheron"...

I personally was very fond of Darth Janus -- two-faced, double-edged sword, a twin....I, too, am really disappointed in the choices. Kinda wimpy for a grandson of the mighty Darth Vader.

The five names that were selected weren't bad. I had entered the name "Darth Justus", because Jason has always talked about justice and creating justice where there wasn't any. Anyways, as far a the the other names, depending on how the name is introduce and the reason created for it, I think they could work. At least we've had a chance to have had some input.
Whatever happens, I'm anxiously waiting for the next book to come out.

Being a Canadian I wasn't allowed to enter this contest, which I'm not very happy about. Since I'm a huge fan and have been for as long as I can remember. The name I would have submitted was Darth Sacul (Lucas backwards) in honor of the man who gave us our obsession.

I'm from Canada as well, and unfortunately the contest closes a week and a half before my eighteenth birthday, so even if I did live in the US I still couldn't vote. I didn't mind Darth Paxis, and from the names at the start of the blog, Darth Nior sounded really cool. I was hoping to submit Darth Saken, which sounds pretty Sithly to me, and also (although not a very original idea) comes from the root Forsaken, because Jacen will forsake everything from his personal life it order to obtain peace and justice.

Okay, maybe that's a little overboard.

Darth Demascus... I have no idea what it means or if it's even a real word. It just came to me one day and I like the sound of it. Lord Demascus.

Good entry, YodaBud! I see you've made the Top Five Most Popular entries. Congrats, and thanks for sharing so many unique names. I think that the really good ones should be recycled for the names of other Sith Lords, perhaps in the Old Republic Era. Even that would be a dream come true!

I decided not to enter the contest, but my name was 'Darth Callicles'. The etymology is pretty direct: Callicles was a Greek philosopher, frequently at odds with Socrates, who argued in favor of self-absorption. I thought that Callicles' ideals were the same which had insidiously led Jacen to darkness.

Cool names all around. As YodaBud commented, we'll have a whole army!
