Mando'a Stuff, Clone First Impressions, and Kotor Darkside
I was randomly browsing through the Mando'a word list today - I need to get myself to learn some new vocab somehow - and I came across the word cyare (pronounced SHAH-ray), which means "beloved, loved, popular". And it occurred to me - that would be the Mandalorian version of my name. "Amy" means "beloved" or "loved one", so were I a Mandalorian, I could be called Cyare. Cool!

For those of you who like Mando'a, you might be interested in my adventure to translate some of my Livejournal layout text. :D It was surprisingly difficult, as we only have a thousand words to work with. But I think I did pretty well.

I've been thinking a lot about the first time I saw AotC, and trying to remember my first impressions of the clones. I hardly noticed the clones at all before I read Hard Contact (that was in March 2005 - hard to believe it's been a whole year now!) but I do recall one thing. The scene near the end when Padme and the one clone fall from the gunship (and Anakin has his semi-tantrum about going back for her)... I remember thinking that we'd seen the last of the clone, as the picture centered on Padme. But then he came over to see how she was and I thought, aww, he's ok, and he's so nice to make sure she's ok too! :) I think that was really the first time I saw a clone as an individual soldier - I didn't see them as people right away, but they weren't just faceless, nameless, and uncaring droids. (A droid never would have gone to see if Padme was ok.) They could think and react to their situation in ways that, well, real soldiers do. :) Just a little thing, and it's probably slightly clouded by hindsight (though I really try to be aware of that nowadays... you'll never catch me saying "I loved the clones at first sight!" because it's just not true), but I thought it was interesting.

I can't wait for the next Star Wars Insider. I want to read Odds, like, now.

I've been replaying Kotor recently. I need to replay Kotor II as well, but I wanted to be uber-darkside just once in Kotor because despite playing it three times prior to this, there were some plot lines that I just couldn't make myself do the darkside option. Like killing the big fishy on Manaan. It was too cool to kill. But I did kill it today. I must say though, there is something very amusing about always choosing the option of "I'll do whatever I want... and I'll kill you too!" when talking to people. It's so incredibly unnecessary that it makes me giggle. Darksiders are funny. But yeah, my dude (male soldier), Vito Giavani (long story), is super-evil and makes the other darkside characters look light. :) I've mostly been using Canderous and HK-47 in this game, because I haven't used them much before. HK is awesomely hilarious, but he's not so good in a fight and thus I haven't used him much before this game. But since Vito can own just about everything singlehandedly (I love soldiers... I normally play as scouts because I like the skills, but soldiers can own a lot easier!), that isn't really a factor. :) And when it is, I just swap him out for Bastila. Vito's old-school though - he uses two swords. Their stats were higher than his lightsabers! Anyways, just one more planet to go (my favourite, Korriban... though it might not be quite as fun when I'm darkside) and then the boring Unknown Planet, and then I can own tons of stuff in the Star Forge. Woot!

Well, I should go do some actual productive stuff now, so re'turcye mhi!

Sadly, you've misinteprated this scene. Obi-Wan or the Jedi probably sent a clone over to recover Padme. The clone was following protocol by asking if she was okay. What, you think they had clone troopers wandering through the desert at Geonosis? ;)

Yes, mine was "OMG! Man down! Forget the politician, they're just ballast!"

On a less cynical hack note, cyar' has many uses as a compound, too - it's another little word that's as flexible as ori. When I get this current manuscript off the desk, I'll blog something on that.

Actually that clone fell out of the gunship with Padme and then went to make sure she was all right. I cant wait to read Hard Contact I love you Karen!:p

Blue leader: Anakins Keeper is right... the clone falls from the gunship with Padme, but she rolls away from him. I just rewatched the scene to be sure. There are actually quite a few clones on the gunship with the two Jedi and Padme... at least 4, not including the pilot. Sadly, the one that fell off is the only one who survives - one mananges to jump off when Ani and Obi do, but he's shot down shortly after the gunship explodes. :(

Bendakstarkiller: I think my guy is using Bacca's Ceremonial Blade and the Geoharadan Poison Blade. I don't have the super-leet lightsaber crystals from Yavin IV yet, but none of my other crystals are good enough to get the stats as high as those blades. Good point about Korriban... we'll have to see. :) I liked doing everything the lightside way because lying about it to get prestige was amusing, but maybe killing random people will be just as fun. ;)

I just did a quick skim through the list and I couldn't find anything similar to those, sorry. It's a bit strange, as those traits would be the norm in Mandalorian society and not the exception. So maybe there's no real way of saying that in Mando'a - like there's no word for "hero" - or perhaps there's just no words along those lines released yet. :/ Anyways, I'll keep an eye out for you. :)

Ywingempress/Amy, I'll just say one thing: I too thought the same as you when I first saw that clone help Padme, but having seen Order 66, my opinions about clones changed permenantly. In what way...well, that's obvious. ;)

i have to wonder about the null clones and the commandos....they seem to be a little more independant then the rest....especially the nulls....so i wonder what they did in order 66....and what happened to kal and vau

Blue leader: Oh, I know your opinions. I just don't think you understand the psychology of compliance in regular human beings. For the record, Order 66 tore me apart too. It was the *only* RotS spoiler I knew going in (and all I knew was it was an order given to the clones to kill the Jedi) and made me cry every time. Because it's tragic. Good guys aren't supposed to kill good guys. Star Wars is all about blurring the line between good and evil - how good people can go bad and later can be redeemed. With the clones, good guys were being used for an evil purpose and they had no idea. It's profoundly depressing to me. I know many clone fans will say they don't like the Jedi and they were cheering during Order 66, but I'm not one of them.

I think the Order 66 scene was one of the most powerful moments in any movie I've ever seen, and it reveals some shocking things about human nature and the nature of good and evil. But I wouldn't change it for the world, and I won't diminish its significance by villifying either the Jedi OR the clones. This is why I hate what they did to the clones in Battlefront II - they did NOT think like that, and having them do so not only goes against all other established continuity, but it decimates the tragedy of Order 66.

Oh, and don't say your opinions have changed "permanently". People who will hold to opinions even in the face of *completely* contradictory evidence get no respect from me. All opinions could change in the future. Always be willing to re-evaluate or you're no better than a droid. ;)

count_ducu: The Nulls are not in the official Grand Army command chain in that they only receive orders from Kal. And Kal, while he is in the GAR, kinda has a tendency to do his own thing, especially where the Nulls are concerned. So I'd consider it highly unlikely that the Nulls would even *receive* Order 66 - if they did, it would be from Kal. As for the rest of the commandos - many would have followed it, some wouldn't have. Now we just have to wait and find out who fits in what category. :)

(Goodness, I hate the 750 character limit. All my paragraphs seem to be just slightly more than 375 characters, so I have to post them one by one to keep them intact. Ugh.)
